CG Media | THE DRIVER – Synopsis*

George Donato is a Los Angeles screenwriter who just lost his staff-writing position on a cable sitcom. Desperate for cash, the neurotic George is hired by an ex-con to drive escorts. George quickly learns the job is too dangerous – he’s not only the driver, he’s the bouncer – so he tries to quit. But the ex-con won’t have it.

George continues driving escorts and falls in love with one – a sweet Brazilian, who dreams of being the next Warren Buffett. Things take a turn for the worse when George and his escort go to a mansion in Malibu and witness a female studio head pummeling a sitcom star. They escape the house but find out the next day the sitcom star has been murdered, and George becomes the prime suspect.

Meanwhile, the studio head tries to buy George’s silence by offering him a six-figure deal on his animated children’s screenplay. George is caught in a moral vortex – should he lie and get his big break or should he tell the truth and risk everything to bring down a studio head? Lost in the underbelly of L.A., the only thing he can do is… keep on driving.

Like Elmore Leonard’s Hollywood novels GET SHORTY and BE COOL, THE DRIVER skewers the film industry and the narcissistic personalities who hold all the power — and have no intention of sharing it with a nobody like George.

D’Alessandro knows of what he writes: he took a last-resort job driving escorts for a busy Los Angeles escort agency. The client descriptions, including the not so thinly veiled, bold-faced names, are based on his actual agency interactions. THE DRIVER is an insider’s escort industry view that has a hilarious, Woody Allen-esque narrative, which makes a compelling, fun read.

Readers will fall in love with George Donato, THE DRIVER’s engaging, self-deprecating protagonist. Jump in the Caddy and come along for the ride…

*Not to be afraid, Synopsis is not a rare venereal disease associated with the North American sex trade, as some visitors have surmised.  Instead it is an elitist term that more succinctly denotes “What the book is about; what happens in this book.”

Just a good luck note on your book sales. I have written the novel ‘Story of an American Escort”
and finished the screenplay script for it last year.
It’s a bear to trying to get an unsolicited work read these days. Any suggestions(I know I do need an agent, even that is not so easy) would like to send you an ebook and or the script. Just a thought… Aloha, CJ

David, why don’t you have a public reading with some big names to get some publicity? I am going to buy the book, is it ready yet?? Once I read it I might have more ideas for marketing – have you created a FB page?? And to say Del can’t drive is an Understatement!! 🙂
